Heifer Project
St. Luke participates in the Heifer
Project which buys farm animals for poor nations.
St. Luke Readathon benefits the Heifer Project
St. Luke hosts a readathon during the month of January. The congregation
is challenged to read during the cold dark January days and nights, keeping
track of the number of pages read and turning their totals in every Sunday
morning. The mission committee
offers to donate one penny for every page read to the Heifer Project which helps
small farmers in a global economy. The first year of this program sent
$1,000 to purchase a Milk Menagerie; one heifer, one water buffalo and two
goats. Not only did we help farmers around the world but our congregation
read over 100,000 pages
