P.A.D.S.
Public Action to Deliver Service

From member Judy Dawson:
Hi Everybody!
We have been asked to again assist the Congregation Etz Chiam by providing meals and supervision for their Sunday night PADS site.  The Congregation has an overnight site all year round and there are very few sites open in the summer.  The dates are both Sunday nights - June 10 and August 12.  I am looking for someone to head up the summer site organization.  You could either provide leadership for one or both of those dates.  I would be happy to work with anyone who would take this on.  If you are interested, please email me, Judy Dawson at JDaws442@aol.com or call me at 964-5173 or see me in church.  Many thanks.  We got rave reviews for our assistance last year.  It's because we do such a good job that we are asked back.  Hurrah for St. Luke members and their focus on mission.

DuPage P.A.D.S. Inc. is a not-for-profit organization which provides safe and hospitable shelter, support services and advocacy for the homeless people in collaboration with religious and community groups in DuPage County. Various sites in the DuPage area offer overnight shelters, counseling, meals, and support.

St. Luke has been involved in P.A.D.S. for many years, and each November, members of our church staff the overnight facility at First Congregational Church in downtown Downers Grove.

Our members provide casseroles, salads, dessert and fellowship. Volunteers sign up for a Monday night in November and their choice of five shifts to work.

Breakfast is prepared for the guests before they leave the shelter.

Sign up posters and information on the program are set out each October, and members are encouraged to sign up for all or part of an evening. This mission is enjoyed by many members of St. Luke because they share a common bond of love and concern for the homeless people in our community.
